Tiny Woodpecker

Tiny woodpecker was very naughty. Whenever he perched on any tree, he could not resist pecking it. All the birds trembled in fear because whenever he nibbled any tree, the eggs fell down from the nests. They tried their best to convince Tiny but he ignored their advice and refused to budge.

One day Tiny noticed two white eggs in Harry pigeon’s nest. Tiny flew and sat on the branch. When Harry saw Tiny, he understood his intentions. He kicked Tiny and started biting him with his sharp beak.

Frightened Tiny flew from there but he decided to come back at a later moment to teach Harry a lesson.

After few days eggs hatched and produced snow white offsprings.Happy Harry went in search of food for her children. Meanwhile mischievous Tiny, who was waiting for such opportunity, sat on the same branch where the off springs were sitting, and started pecking it as fast as he could. Within no time the branch broke off and the nest fell on the ground. But fortunately the nest was thick and strong so none of the two children were hurt. But they both got frightened and started crying loud enough to shatter the skies. Harry heard their weeping and flew down to them at once. He became very sad to see his broken nest and crying children. Tears rolled down his eyes. He decided enough was enough and Tiny should be shown the correct way.

Next day, he perched on the same branch where Tiny was sitting. He said very politely-“Tiny, I have found a wonderful tree. You will get thousands of bugs in its bark.”

Hearing this Tiny’s mouth got watered. He agreed happily and flew towards the tree with Harry.

Seeing a very large tree, Tiny was overwhelmed with joy.

He had never seen such a beautiful tree. He perched on a branch and pecked as fast as he could.

Suddenly he felt he could not move his beak.

He tried to call Harry but his beak had got stuck in gum. Tears rolled down his cheeks. He thought about all his mischievous acts and dirty tricks he played upon his friends.

He was losing all hopes of his survival, when he saw Harry sitting before him.

Tiny remembered how he broke the branch and hurt his off springs.

He thought I will die here due to hunger and thirst because I have never helped anyone. So no body will help me.

And the stream of tears drenched his face.

Then he saw Harry pouring water on his beak. And within no time he was free .He fluttered his wings and straight away hugged Harry.

He lowered his head and said-“Harry, I am ashamed of my behaviour.Please forgive me”

Harry found tears of remorse glistening in his eyes.

Harry smiled and hugged him gently. And since then Tiny has become the apple of everyone’s eye as he is always ready to help others.
